What stood out for us, beyond her beauty, kindness and talent, is her courage to change things up by moving from NJ, where she's originally from, to San Diego. With that move came a career switch and Alissa is now not only an avid and very good golfer, but she is now a highly sought after on-air host covering all things golf. Her transition into the golfing world started very authentically and organically when she began documenting her beginner golfer journey on her IG page @newladygolfer. Never say never and never say always.

Tell us a little bit about you.

I am originally from New Jersey and moved to San Diego 4.5 years ago. I was a high school teacher for ten years in NJ and was ready for a new adventure after moving to San Diego. I started taking golf lessons, and began documenting my beginner golfer journey on IG with the handle @newladygolfer. I got some great media opportunities within the first year that helped me transition from a beginner golfer to now working in Golf Media.   

What inspired you to start playing golf ?  

My boyfriend loves to golf so I wanted to be able to play with him at home and on our travels.   

What is it that you love most about the game of golf?   

I love doing something fun, active and social outdoors in San Diego. I’ve met some incredible people, formed and strengthened wonderful relationships and have played bucket list golf courses thanks to this game.   

I recently read that the number of female golfers is approximately 25% and although that figure has increased in recent years, it’s still falls short when compared to male golfers. So, with that in mind, any tips you can share with those women who are thinking of starting up the game? It can be intimidating ~ how best to get started?

First, just go for it! And I always recommend lessons, small group classes or clinics with professional instruction. Getting basic swing mechanics down and learning the rules and etiquette will give anyone confidence to eventually get out on a regular course.  

As a TV host for Golf Life TV, you travel a lot and get to see some of the most stunning golf courses. Which course is on your bucket list that you would love to play?

Well, Augusta National! That is # 1 bucket list course for me.   

Do you set goals or resolutions at the start of each year? If yes, what are they for 2023?

I do, I’m still chasing my goal of breaking 80. I almost did it in the first 10 days of 2023 but fell one stroke off by shooting 80 at Kapalua in Maui.   

You’ve accomplished so much already, but to date, what would you consider your greatest accomplishment?       

I’m really proud of establishing myself as a golf media personality with really no experience or background. I’m also proud of my social media accounts and the audiences I’ve built. I’m very grateful for everyone that joins me on this crazy golf journey!        

What is one fact that most would not know about you?      

I’m left handed in golf and play all sports righty.  

Aside from golf, when you’re not working, what’s your favorite thing to do?      

I love everything fitness and being active and I love to travel. As funny as it sounds, when I’m not working I love to golf, purely because I enjoy it. Not because I need to film or make content!   

Now let’s talk fashion! How would you describe your personal style?   

Definitely sporty on a regular basis. But I love getting glam and sparkly for nights out in Las Vegas and Miami when the time comes.   

What’s your go-to outfit when you’re pressed for time?        

Anything by ALO.   

What’s your fashion or beauty indulgence?    

Monthly facials and skincare/make up. I could spend hours and a small fortune in Sephora 😂 I also love shopping on Revolve.   

Celebrity-style crush?      

Supermodel, Izabel Goulart - she is everything goals!  

Which cocktail best describes your personality?     

Spicy margarita

Next dream travel destination?      

I would love to go to Dubai, go on an African Safari with my boyfriend and his daughters, go to Scotland to play St. Andrew’s.   

If you could have dinner with three special guests, who would they be?        

My mom, my sister, and my deceased grandma, for us to have one more dinner with her.
