It's about time we feature our collaborator, the artist known as Sew Sketchy who is "a New York style icon with a sassy attitude living in London." Right from the start, we totally vibed with Sew Sketchy's creativity, style, sassiness, and joie de vivre. Truly, the best part of our collaboration was getting to know the artist beyond her fabulous Instagram page and works of art. She's not just a collaborator... she's now most importantly a friend.
Aside from your fabulous taste in fashion, you are also known for your sassy quotes, but what’s your all time favorite?
“You can’t make everyone happy, you are not a Chanel Bag.”
You recently moved from NYC, where you’re originally from, to London. Why London?
London and I have a very special relationship. I fell in love with London when I was 16 years old while I was doing a fashion summer program at Central St. Martins. It was during the time when Indie chic was at it’s ultimate peak, and I just fell in love with everything about this city. Whether it’s the culture, the architecture, the impeccably dressed people, the flowers, or the gorgeous British accent, everything about this place just speaks to me. Creatively I also feel super charged here. Some of my best work has been done here and I think it’s due to how inspired I feel when I’m in London.
To date, what would you consider your greatest accomplishment?
My collaboration with Protect My Shoes, duh!
What is one fact that most would not know about you?
That I’m half Belgian and French is my first language!
What do you hope will transpire for you in 2022?
I have a laundry list of personal and professional goals that I keep close to my chest because I really don’t want to jinx it and I really believe in manifestation. But what I sincerely hope for 2022 is that the world just finds it’s sanity again and we can all live our lives to the fullest.
Now let’s talk fashion! How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe it as glitzy girly girl meets a bad ass New Yorker. I love an all black look, but my closet also has a million pink and floral dresses and sparkly purses. I collect sparkly anything. I love wearing the most basic thing with a full on sparkle purse or shoes. But recently I just bought a Barbour Jacket because I live in London and think that it’s a right of passage to own one if you live here, but the other day I wore it with a sparkly chain mail bag that is so sparkly it could blind you, and it was kind of a major moment. So anything black, or sparkly, is really a go to for me.
What’s your favorite fashion trend of the moment?
I think the last real trend I followed was when the gladiator sandal came out and I was interning at Vogue at the time, so obviously I had to own a pair. But ever since I don’t really follow trends, I just do my own thing, and I think people who mix their own style, are really what fashion is all about. The” trendy people” are the ones who are actually not wearing whatever anyone else is in my eyes.
What’s the biggest fashion faux pas or trend that needs to disappear from this planet?
CROCS. They need to go. Especially those offensive ones that have just been launched with a heel. Have you seen those? If you haven’t, then I would proceed by googling them with caution because I didn’t sleep for 4 days after seeing that. They’re like a fashion nightmare.
Who’s your celebrity style crush?
Iris Apfel. She’s such a legend and I watch her documentary all the time just to watch her put herself together. It’s an art form and it’s absolutely amazing. The way she places her bracelets and bangles is so methodical and mesmerizing.
What’s your go-to outfit when you’re pressed for time?
Black skinny jeans, black t shirt tucked in, black oversized sweater, combat boots, and my black Saint Laurent sunglasses. That’s actually my uniform and you can pull this off when you’re going to a meeting or feeling chic to go out or hungover at brunch. It works for any occasion.
What’s on your fashionista radar in terms of next purchase?
My next purchase that I’ve had my eye on is the sparkly rhinestoned Prada Bag. It’s just one of those items that can also work with a pair of jeans or a night out and it’s a total show stopper.
Which shoe brand do you love most?
Amina Muaddi Shoes. They are just absolute perfection and they work with a pair of ripped jeans and a white tee, or a black tie gown for a gala. I love her collection so much!
In your opinion, what’s the best dressed city?
London! Even the men here are dressed impeccably.
Which cocktail best describes your personality?
Spicy Margarita.
If you could have dinner with three special guests, who would they be?
Dead or Alive would be: Andy Warhol, Andre Leon Talley and Valentino Garavani.
